Who we are
The Canadian Foundation for Innovation and Research (CFIR) is a federal not-for-profit corporation, registered office at 909 Alness St, Toronto, Ontario M3J 2J1. We handle personal information following the fair information principles of Canada’s federal privacy legislation.
Who is responsible
The person responsible for protecting personal information at the Foundation can be reached at [email protected], or by mail at the registered office above. Write there to ask a question about this notice, or to see, correct, or delete what we hold about you.
What we collect
Only what you hand us on a form: through the partnership form, your company’s name, your name and role, your work email, and anything you choose to write; through the newsletter form, your email address. If you tick the newsletter box on the partnership form, your email joins the newsletter too. The site runs without user accounts, and it does not track you — there is no analytics that follows you, and no advertising. See Cookies on research.ca.
What is collected automatically
Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes IP addresses and standard server logs to deliver and secure the site, and — on the forms — runs a security check (Turnstile) to tell a person from a bot.
How the site is read is counted by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless: it records the page, the referring link, and the country a request comes from, sets nothing on your device, and builds no profile of you. Nothing here is tied to your identity.
Why we collect it
To reply to your enquiry, and — only if you asked for it — to send you the newsletter. We use it for nothing else, and we do not sell or rent personal information.
Consent
Submitting a form is your consent to be contacted about what you sent. The newsletter is a separate, express consent — its box is unticked until you tick it, and either way your email is confirmed by a link before anything is sent (double opt-in). You can withdraw at any time by emailing us or using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email; unsubscribes take effect within ten business days.
Who we share it with
The service providers that run the site and its mail — Cloudflare (hosting, security, and cookieless analytics) and Sender.net (which sends the confirmation and newsletter emails and holds the subscriber list) — and public authorities where the law requires it. These providers may process data outside Canada, where it is subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.
How long we keep it
As long as needed to handle your enquiry or run your subscription, and then it is deleted. Our record that you consented is kept for as long as the law asks, so we can show that you agreed.
How we protect it
The site is served over HTTPS, and access to correspondence and the subscriber list is limited to the people who handle it.
Your rights
Email us to see, correct, or delete what we hold about you: [email protected].
Cookies
The site is cookieless: it sets nothing to track, measure, or advertise, so there is no banner. The one exception is a short-lived security cookie the Turnstile check may set on the forms. See Cookies on research.ca.
